Begin your Gyrotonic ® practice in Bellingham

What is Gyrotonic®?

Gyrotonic is an unique exercise method that uses circular, spiraling movements and specialized equipment to build strength, flexibility, and joint mobility.

How it Works

Circular Motion: Unlike traditional weight training that moves in straight lines, Gyrotonic focuses on continuous, flowing, and rotational patterns. Specialized Equipment: Workouts use a system of weighted pulleys, drop-off boards, and benches—most notably the Pulley Tower—to provide constant, even support and resistance. Breath and Rhythm: Each exercise coordinates deep breathing with fluid movement to stimulate the nervous system and open energy pathways. Origins Created by a Dancer: Professional dancer Juliu Horvath developed the system in the 1980s after experiencing a severe injury. He initially called the practice "Yoga for Dancers" before expanding it into the Gyrotonic Expansion System.

Benefits and Uses

Adaptable: Suitable for everyone from people recovering from injuries to elite athletes looking to enhance their performance. Decompresses Joints: Movements elongate the spine and joints without jarring compression. Improves Posture: Enhances core stability, coordination, and physical balance.
